Pallunga di Sopra
in XVII century was farmers house of the Sillicagnana lords. The name Pallunga seems to derive from the "pollane" (springs) of spring water which the area is rich in. the wide farmyard, today centre of our reception, remind us the centre of country life, all surrounded by the house, the stable, the drier and by firewood oven. Just below, towards the river, there were two mills, "mulin novo" and "mulin vecchio" (the mills) that for hundreds years have produced a prized walnut oil. The complex Pallunga di Sopra, after a renovation executed in a rigidly conservative and respectful way of the ancient characteristics, today consists of three houses, "Casa Cristina", "Casa Rondine", "la Capanna" (the houses). The whole farm is about 10 hectares, suitable to cultures of cereals and legumes, as in orchards and in the pasture. The wood, over 9 hectares, above Sillicagnana (the nearest village), gives firewood and chestnuts of good quality. As known, in Garfagnana we produce the spelt, we grow it we grow it in our fields, of the best quality. The spelt, parent of all wheat today known, was for over 2000 years the primary food of entire populations mediterranean and asian ". The ground, water, the altitude of 500 mt. a.s.l. are a prosperous mix for the growth of a quality that has a fast cooking, about 20 minutes against the 45 needed for plain's spelt. In some fields, richer in water, we cultivate the lentils and maize "otto file", said Formenton (a kind of maize).
